Five Sifrei Torah Stolen Near Beit Shemesh
The community of Zecharia, near Beit Shemesh, was shocked to discover on Wednesday morning that their beis knesses had been ransacked, five sifrei Torah stolen and sifrei kodesh torn and strewn across the floor.
Police were summoned, and they started an immediate search for the perpetrators. Suspicion fell on Arab elements carrying out their own “price tag” attack in retaliation for recent vandalism of Arab property in the country, and police said it was a possibility they would investigate.
Later on Wednesday, another anti-Jewish hate crime was found in the Menashe Regional Council where swastikas and the image of a chareidi Jew were painted on a headstone in the local cemetery and a junction in the area.
Police opened an investigation there too.
After the incident became known, Council head Ilan Sadeh said he received numerous calls from local residents and Arab leaders who condemned the acts and offered their moral support.
