Low Income Ill NYers to Get Free Air Conditioners
Low income New Yorkers with a medical issue will be eligible to apply for an air conditioner to protect them from illness exacerbated by the extreme heat of the upcoming summer.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that $3 million in HEAP funds will be made available on a first come, first served basis beginning Thursday. Qualifying households must meet income guidelines and have a household member that suffers from a medical condition exacerbated by extreme heat.
For a family of four, a maximum gross monthly income of $4,182 is allowed; for a family of nine, $5,897 is allowed.
