A Mitzvah of the Highest Calling

Since our inception, Hamodia has been a vigorous and outspoken advocate for Jonathan Pollard. Cognizant of our responsibility as a Torah newspaper and the loftiness of the mitzvah of pidyon shevuyim, we have repeatedly published editorials, interviews, and opinion pieces detailing this shocking travesty of justice and calling for his release.

At this crucial hour, as intense talks are underway for his release, it is in light of this same sense of responsibility that we choose not editorialize on or even analyze the specifics of the negotiations now taking place.

Now is not the time for political statements or opinions, this is time for tefillah.

We have just entered the month of redemption, a time for geulah for our nation, and for individuals.

This is a time for all of Am Yisrael, to take a few minutes and say some Tehillim for Yehonoson ben Malkah, to spend a few more moments davening for him during Shemoneh Esrei, and to increase our acts of chessed and tzedakah to arouse Heavenly zechuyos on his behalf.

It is our heartfelt plea that we should soon have the merit to report that finally, this terrible nightmare has come to a close, and Jonathan is freed and allowed to travel to Eretz Yisrael, and join his wife, Esther, who has exhibited such mesirus nefesh on his behalf.
