Newark Mayor Candidates Address Murder Spike
Two candidates for mayor of New Jersey’s largest city took to the streets Monday to bring attention to Newark’s rising murder rate, The Associated Press reported. Shavar Jeffries held a news conference near the site of a shooting last week that left two teens dead, while Ras Baraka met with relatives. A 13-year-old girl was shot while taking out the trash, pushing the murder rate past 100 for the first time since 2006.
