Bear Found Hiding in Crawlspace to Escape Hunt

HOPATCONG, N.J. (AP) -

A man had the shock of his life Wednesday when he found a 350-pound bear hiding in a crawlspace, apparently hiding out during New Jersey’s annual black bear hunt. A cleaner called police when he noticed signs of a bear while he prepared a vacant house to go up for sale on Friday. A senior wildlife biologist had a hard time chasing the bear away, since it lethargic. Hunters killed 251 bears during the hunt last week.
