There was shock and horror in Ashdod at the news on Thursday of two yeshivah students who were injured, one quite seriously, when a heavy piece of concrete suddenly came loose and fell on them.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon during recess as the two were walking through a new hall of the yeshivah still under construction. For reasons not yet known, a piece of concrete fell on them.

A nearby Hatzalah unit was summoned and came immediately. One of the bachurim was described as in very serious condition, the other moderately injured. Both were rushed to Kaplan Hospital in Rechovot.

The construction site was fenced off, but the bachurim gained access through a workers’ entrance, according to Dovid Chanuna of Magen Dovid Adom, who added that it was a miracle that neither one was immediately crushed to death by the weight of the concrete.

After undergoing surgery, the more seriously hurt bachur showed significant improvement. He had suffered no internal injuries. The other bachur remained conscious throughout and was able to converse with staff from the yeshivah on Thursday night.

The public is asked to daven for a refuah sheleimah for Shlomo ben Nechama Nacha and Shevach Yehuda ben Tzarka Rus.
