Shots Fired at NJ Mall

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP/Hamodia) —

As we go to press, police are searching for a gunman at Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall in northern New Jersey, after shots were fired inside just before closing, according to news reports. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

People inside the mall are reporting that it is on lockdown.

An eyewitness, Mrs. Horowitz of Monsey, was shopping at the mall Monday evening for pillows and blankets. She was standing by the cashier when she saw what she describes as “youngsters” running. She heard a shot, dropped everything, and ran, because, as she said, she didn’t know what was coming. When she heard a second shot, she and her husband ran to their car.

“I was terrified,” Mrs. Horowitz told Hamodia.

Emergency radio transmissions say authorities are waiting for SWAT teams to arrive. No contact has been made with a shooter.

The mall is located in Bergen County, about 22 miles southwest of Manhattan. At least 200 police vehicles have arrived at the mall.
