In First, NY State Budget Funds Security for Yeshivos
New York State’s legislature added millions of dollars for security equipment for yeshivos, the first time it has done so. They also modestly increased funding for Mandated Services and Comprehensive Assessment Policy programs.
The programs reimburse nonpublic schools for the cost of certain services required by the state. This year’s budget allocates $94 million for Mandated Services and $43.5 million for CAP, slightly more than last year.
Even so, this year’s budget allocation for CAP does not cover the full costs of the program.
The budget included for the first time $4.5 million for security equipment in nonpublic schools.
